STEA2M Fair 2020 Recap

March 11, 2020 /Posted byAdmin_Jun / 1177 / 0

Spyder3D® is very proud and grateful to have represented Diamond Bar High school at the 2020 STEA2M Fair, participating alongside students from two incredibly hard-working and dedicated on-campus clubs: graphic media production hub PrintedWorks, and robotics club Team Sprocket, as well as three very knowledgeable technicians from Epilog Laser.

A two-day event held at the Fairplex in Pomona on March 6th and 7th, the STEA2M Fair is “an experiential event designed to inspire students from grades K-12 to explore and pursue learning and careers in the areas of STEA2M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Agriculture, and Mathematics)”. The event is a celebration of its namesake and offered numerous workshops, hands-on demonstrations, and teachings at various booths across the Fairplex, all related to these growing fields.

Students help prepare the booth on the morning of the first day.

Attendees included big names from Boeing to Raising Cane’s, all stationed at their respective booths filled with eager young minds ready to explore the many areas STEA2M has to offer. Diamond Bar was fortunate enough to have two booths for both their clubs in attendance. The first, led by the members of Printedworks, showcased the versatility and customization offered by the program’s Spyder Lab™ equipment, including 3D printing, laser engraving, vinyl cutting, and eco-solvent heat transfer decals. Guests were able to spin a prize wheel and win either laser-engraved pencils, stickers, a custom t-shirt, or a custom-drawn calligraphy piece.

Guests wait in line for their turn to spin the prize wheel and have a chance at winning a custom t-shirt amongst other prizes.

At the front of the line, an excited guest spins the prize wheel.

Team Sprocket’s booth, just across the way from PrintedWorks included not one, but two fully-functioning remote-controlled robots, built from the ground up by members of the club. Each utilized advanced mechanics that allowed them to collect and “throw” playground balls into trash cans and a custom vinyl cut-out respectively. In addition to the controllable robots, guests could tinker with toy pieces to create a system of gears and create a maze for a small ball to roll through.

A guest controls one of the Team Sprocket robots.

Attendees watch as the other Team Sprocket Robot launches yellow balls through the cut vinyl.

With an estimated 20,000+ people in attendance, PrintedWorks’ and Team Sprockets’ booths were easily amongst the most popular, attracting large groups of curious students, teachers, and parents alike throughout both days. It’s safe to say this year’s STEA2M Fair was a huge success for Diamond Bar High school, its students, and staff, and all those involved.

Spyder3D® would like to congratulate each and every participating student and faculty member on a phenomenal job well done. For all those involved, this was their first experience of its kind, and everyone worked their respective booth like a true professional. We want to thank everyone at the STEA2M Fair, the Pomona Fairplex, Epilog Laser, PrintedWorks, and Team Sprocket for all their help and efforts in expanding the public’s knowledge of STEA2M understanding.
