The color of African Mahogany wood is a light pinkish brown in colour. The wood darkens with exposure to a deep red. Its grain is straight and interlocked that gives it a striped figure. The texture varies most often it has a medium coarseness. Heartwood is creamy white to yellowish.

African Mahogany is easy to work. The interlocking grain can cause woolliness on machines with some blunting effect on cutters. Mahogany turns, sands, glues and finishes well.
